About me

My name is Alessandra V. Carrara. I lived abroad for many years and have returned to Italy, settling in the beautiful village of Vizza with the intention of helping to preserve it and share its beauty. In 2012, I founded Mamèmi Ceramics. I collaborate with various organizations to bring beauty—expressed through unique, handmade objects—into people’s homes and enhance their quality of life.

I began my journey in ceramic art in 2005 in the Netherlands at the Cooperative VAK, Center for the Arts in Delft. I further developed my skills in decoration at the SBB Gouda Center, in glazing with ceramic artist Addy Meewisse at Keramiekatelier De Mattenschuur in Delft, and in wheel throwing at the Leach Pottery in St. Ives, UK.

I will be delighted to welcome you and guide you through an experience of discovery, where a sense of wonder comes to life in your eyes.
We provide a place to express your creative and social skills. We foster creativity in the ceramic atelier, through the constant exchange of ideas among ceramic artists and ceramic lovers like yourself and in the co-living house among people from all over the world. Join our community in Borgo Vizza, and take your life to the next level!

CERAMIC STUDIO

Our space is specially designed for artists like you.

Here, you’ll find everything you need to bring your creations to life, from ceramic kilns to high-quality tools.

If you’re not yet sure you’re an artist, but a quiet inner voice keeps telling you that you are, I’ll help you realize that it’s one voice worth listening to.

Nestled in the heart of the village, the ceramics studio was created as a quiet retreat for making — a place where time slows down and creativity can unfold naturally. It is a space designed for immersion: to work with clay, reconnect with the rhythm of the hands, and rediscover the simple pleasure of creating and a sense of inner balance.

The studio occupies the ground floor of a historic stone building, carefully restored with respect for its original character. The renovation, supported in part by the PNRR – Investment 2.2, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU (CUP Code: H17B2200034004), followed a conservation approach using only natural and traditional materials — wood, stone, lime, and cocciopesto — allowing the spirit of the place to remain intact.

Inside, the studio is intimate yet fully equipped: six Shimpo pottery wheels, a Rohde top-loading electric kiln, a large communal worktable for up to ten people, a spray booth, and all the tools needed to work with clay comfortably and safely.

Designed to host small groups, workshops, and creative retreats, the space offers a calm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the year — warm in winter, cool in summer — where participants can focus, experiment, and share the experience of making together.

The process, slow and meticulous, is the only one that allows objects used with food to be safe again, giving them a new life while also enhancing them with beauty and value.
